"Yves Abel - a guest to Bochum - made the Brahms Violin Concerto seem easy for soloist Cordula Merks, and conducted transparently. Good tuning between the musicians was evident. After the interval the fantastic happened. Abel and the orchestra presented a heavyweight contrast to the traditional Brahms Concerto with the Faust Symphonie of Franz Liszt. The Bochumer Symphoniker instilled the character studies with their lives – with dynamic and musical performances."
